

Great Wakering Rovers secured a convincing first league win of the season as they defeated Sporting Bengal United 4-0 on Saturday.
Shaun Gittleson netted just before the break to put the Rovers before Brandy Makuendi, Thomas Barton and Jack Mitchell completed the route in the second half.
It was a relief for the whole team to secure their first league win of the season and to win in style as they put in a brilliant performance to see them move up the league table.
Kickoff:
Rovers were straight onto the front foot and made dozen of chances early on but just couldn’t put them away.
Inside 10 minutes, Jayden Alexander was causing trouble running in from behind down the left flank and earned a free kick on the left after being brought down by Ashiqur Rahman who was cautioned. Erti Sylejmani saw his curling effort straight into the hands of Obaid Nasim.
Minutes later, a good move down the right sent Shaun Gittleson running down the wing and delivered a fantastic cross into Mitchell Arthur who glanced his header just wide.
In 26 minutes, Bengal had a good just against the run of play when Kevin Zie received the ball in the box and turned in before seeing his close range effort well held by George Marsh who got down well quick.
Rovers continued to apply the pressure and made chance after chance.
Gittleson was once again played out wide and got to the byline before delivering a pass across the box to Jack Banks who hit the post before Harry Talbot saw his point blank effort rattle the cross bar.
Sylejmani received a short corner before seeing his arrowed effort tipped over by Nasim.
The pressure would eventually pay off as Rovers broke the deadlock with less than ten minutes to play.
A good flowing move through the middle worked its way to Harry Talbot and he put Shaun Gittleson through. Gittleson ran at goal and lifted the ball over the on-rushing Nasim to give the Rovers a well earned lead.
Halftime: Rovers 1-0 Sporting Bengal United
Rovers turned up the gears in the second half and played flowing football and on 54 minutes they doubled their lead.
Rovers earned a corner on the left and Bengal failed to clear Sylejmani’s ball in. Brandy Makuendi win possession at the back post and held off his marked before turning and lashing the ball in to give his team breathing space.
The visitors did have a chance when they earned a free kick after Jayden Alexander fouled an attacker and was booked for a high challenge. However, their effort was wide.
Rovers were playing well and doing some flowing football. They created numerous chances and with twenty minutes to go, they netted two more.
On 72 minutes, a good move down the left found Reece Placid and he tricked his way into the box before getting to the byline and found Thomas Barton running in unmarked at the back post to tap in.
A minute later, Jack Mitchell then scored Rovers fourth when they went in a counter attack. Harrison Chatting received a long ball forward and ran down the wing before cutting the ball back to Mitchell on the edge of the box. The substitute turned his marker before rolling the ball into the bottom right corner to complete the route.
The visitors did have a few chances coming into the closing stages of the game but they just couldn’t hit then target.

A much needed first league win of the season and a fantastic performance which sends the Rovers up the league table.
A great turnout by the fans today who got behind the goal and played their part as the twelve man.
