Steve Lovell

Rovers ladies 3-2 Emerson & Upminster ladies

Great Wakering Rovers Ladies made it back to back wins as they defeated Emerson & Upminster 3-2.

Emelia Beevers netted midway through the first half before visitors drew level just before the break. However, midway through the second half, Lola Adam’s put her side back in front with a long range effort before Beevers netted a brace late on. The visitors got a second late in but Rovers all but secured the win.

It’s now back to back league wins for Louisa Jones and Ian Belcher’s side which sees them move up to fourth in the league. Credit to the team who played their hearts out with bare eleven.

Kickoff:

Rovers were playing flowing football made kept majority of possession with a series of neat moves and passing.

It didn’t take long for them to finally break the deadlock as they took the lead in 23 minutes.

A flowing move from the back to the midfield put Emelia Beevers through on goal as she beater the offside trap and she ran at goal before composing herself and slotting in to put her side in front.

Two minutes later, Rovers custodian Zekai-Tabert arrived and the keeper came on in place of Louisa Jones who kept her gloves warm.

Rovers continued to create chances but just couldn’t capitalise and the visitors would eventually equalise on 38 minutes when a corner wasn’t cleared.

Halftime: Rovers 1-1 Emerson & Upminster

Louisa and Ian’s team however continued as they left off and played really good football.

The visitors looked dangerous going forward with the long ball but a combination of good defending by Sienna Creighton and Sorcha Farrell ensured they couldn’t penetrate their back line.

The hard work would eventually pay off as they got back in front midway through the second half.

A long ball over the top down the left was cleared by the goalkeeper straight to Lola Adam’s and she got her head up before curling a long range thirty yard effort into the empty goal.

Rovers continued to play good football and kept the ball moving, however, late into the game, Adam’s had to be stretched off and Rovers were down to ten.

However, they say when a player down, it makes you work twice as hard and that’s what happened when Emelia Beevers beat an offside trap and ran at goal before slotting in for her brace.

The visitors did bag a late second when a player got down the left and curled a good shot into the bottom right but Rovers held on for the win.

Fulltime: Rovers 3-2 Emerson & Upminster

A good win considering the team had barel eleven which sees them move up the league table.
